IN MY OPINION:  If you want to go to ONE location that features manta rays and sharks, Yap (one hour and 15 min south of Guam) is the place.  What most don't know is that Yap offers much more than that because the manta diving overshadows the other marine life.

Yap is among the easiest diving area (most of the time) in the western pacific, and at most sites there's almost no reason to get deeper than 70-80.  You can spend 3-4 dives in the two main channels that have mantas (Mil and Goofnu) and never see the variety of other marine life there because you're too busy looking at -or for- the mantas.

The south dive sites are really good, lots of marine life typical of thriving pacific reefs, and the visibility is usually at least 80-100'.  The shark feeding dive is the best in Micronesia.  The Manta Ray Bay hotel and staff, led by Bill Acker, is outstanding.  Been diving here since 1982 and Yap is my favorite quick get away destination.

TIP:  Find out when there are high tides in the morning between 7-9am there and plan your trips around them. Why?  Because the high tides bring in the clearest water in the channels and usual 20-30' visibility will increase dramatically.
